This morning I picked up my running partner, Charlotte and we made our way over to the stairs.
I have met the stairs before on a few occasions. Actually many ladies in Savannah have. Usually in heels and usually if you have had a drink (or even none), it doesn't look pretty. Our historic River Street has some pretty amazing stairs that take you up to Bay Street. Problem is, they are old, each step is not the same height, and some are slicker than an ice rink.
So when my friend Dan from Savannah Running suggested the "Killa Stair Workout" I cringed and thought.... even when I DD (which is like always), I can't even walk down those bad boys. How am I going to do repeats on them? And then when I get real tired? That is like a few drink equivalent? I started having flashbacks to my 25 birthday. Oh lord.
So we ran up the 34 stairs. Which I really consider 68 because they are double the size of normal stairs then did a 1/4 mile loop around the block back down to River Street. Then did it all over again 9 times. When we finished with 2.5 miles, we did one more time UP just so we had photographic evidence.
We did it. I didn't die.
And good thing we didn't. Because we had another workout go to. WTOC's Channel 11 Fit Club first Boot Camp in Daffin Park hosted by Lynda Figueredo (WTOC reporter) and Lydia DePue (Fleet Feet, CREW Fitness Trainer). What a fabulous turnout! It was fun to see Savannah in a healthy light. We started with a light warm-up then broke off into two groups of about 40-50 people in each group.
I was in the Strength group first and had two trainers guide us through a routine of 1 min on, 20 seconds active recovery. Whew! The burpees were fun... especially being filmed and having my run skirt flipping up the whole time ;) After about 20 minutes we switched to the cardio portion! We got out heart rate sky rocketing.
I really hope all that came out will stick with the 28 days. I know that on 28 days, I am eager to see how my measurements 'measure' out.
Now onto grilling out some turkey sausages and veggies.
QOD: Do you mix up your workouts with stairs?
xoxo

Nice, badass workout! I don't do that, but should!

I felt l like a badass.... now my ass is sore :) I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteAli.... the sausages were awesome!!!
There are some INSANE stairs in Georgetown (the stairs from the exorcist movie) that we'd run in highschool for crew practice and I just remember how painful they were.
ReplyDeleteNice work!!
